Elect Jim Friedman District 5 – Ventura City Council

Serving Ventura Since 1995

People have been asking me, “why are you running again?” I was a member of the Ventura city council from 1995 – 2003 and served as Mayor in 1998 and 99. Well, the answer is simple. The 14-year break I took from the city council has allowed me to once again see city hall from the outside looking in, and quite frankly, I don’t like what I’m seeing.

I have a fresh, new perspective and it’s obvious to me that we need to make some common-sense changes at city hall.

My platform is simple, enhancing public safety, your safety and that of your family, friends and neighbors here in Ventura is my absolute number one priority. If you don’t feel safe in your own community, then you don’t have a community. Homelessness is a regional issue. We must strengthen our partnership with the county and work together on practical solutions to our homeless problem.

My second priority is generating additional local revenues through economic development and not higher taxes or fees. We must also reprioritze our budget so that my number one priority (your safety) along with smooth streets and sidewalks can be properly funded. We have to be willing to take an honest look at our city budget. We have to stop kicking the can down the road.

Third. we must resolve our water challenges and we must do so in the most cost effective way possible. We must resolve our challenges with water.  As a financial planner for over 40 years, I tell my clients that their home is one of their most important investments.  Without sustainable and dependable sources of water, the value of all our property will be in jeopardy.
